Kentucky Historical Society Food for Thought Program

In August of 2016, I had the opportunity to conduct a live oral history interview with Gary Bentley, a former coal miner from eastern Kentucky, about his experiences. Though oral history interviews are typically done one-on-one, this was an opportunity to give attendees insight into the oral history process. You can watch the interview here.

Kentucky Oral History Day

This project was a partnership between the Kentucky Council on Archives, the Kentucky Historical Society, and the Kentucky Oral History Commission. Our goal was to raise awareness and build capacity for oral history throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Through coordinated activities, programs and repositories from across Kentucky invested in oral history collections and projects and promoted their efforts through a robust social media campaign. You can check out the website here. My presentation on KOHD for the 2017 Oral History Association annual meeting is here.

Stanford Historical Society

During my time at SHS, I had the opportunity to interview a number of people from the Stanford community, including Jeanne Kennedy, Nancy Packer, Herant Katchadourian, Van Austin Harvey, Arthur Bienenstock, and more. I also contributed to the production of group interviews on the history of the Stanford School of Medicine and the experiences of Pioneering Women at Stanford. You can find more information about the oral history efforts of SHS here and here.

This book resulted from an extensive oral history project with student athletes, coaches, administrators, and community members. All spoke about their experiences with the women’s athletics program at the University of Nevada from the 1940s to the 2000s. You can learn more about the book and its release here. You can access the full interviews for this project here.

University of Nevada Oral History Program

I worked at the UNOHP for a number of years, and had the immense opportunity to interview for a number of projects, including a history of the Jon Ben Snow Foundation and a project conducted with the University of Nevada, Reno’s Osher Lifelong Learning Institute on the cultural history of Reno. I also was privileged to contribute to the editing and book production of A Candle in the Night and Famiglia e Cucina, as well as a number of other UNOHP publications.
